Hygienist service
Visits to the hygienist are central to our preventative care for patients of the practice. After an exmaination by your dentist advice will be given as to the most appropriate hygienist programme for you.
Hygienist visits
The hygienist's main work is to prevent and treat gum disease including professionally cleaning your teeth.
Perhaps their most important role is showing you the best way to keep your teeth free of plaque. Plaque is a sticky coating that forms constantly on your teeth. If it is not brushed away properly, this hardens to form tartar which you cannot remove yourself. They also give advice on diet and preventing dental decay. The hygienist will work alongside your dentist to give you care that is tailored to your needs.
Regular visits and advice will help build your confidence in keeping your mouth healthy.
Direct access treatment
It is now possible to directly access the services of a dental hygienist without seeing a dentist first.
The hygienist can perform a simple scale and polish without a dental prescription. The hygienist will remove any tartar or stains. If the hygienist had any concerns about underlying problems or feel that more complex treatment was necessary you would be advised to see a dentist for a full assessment and treatment.
This service is suitable for example if your regular dentist does not have a hygienist or you are visiting the area.
The cost of a direct access hygienist appointment is £95. New patient can book this service using our secure online booking service or by telephoning the practice. Existing patients of the practice should contact the practice to discuss their options further.
